Monica Francia

BHSc (Nat)
Naturopath, herbalist, nutritionist

After studying Psychology and realising it wasn’t for her, Monica spent many years backpacking around south-east Asia, Europe and India. Through her travels she was inspired by different cultures’ use of natural and herbal medicine. After various short courses in Ayurvedic Medicine and yogic traditions in India, Monica returned to Melbourne to study Western Herbalism and Nutrition. After completing her Bachelor of Health Sciences (Naturopathy) in Melbourne, she moved down to Hobart to be a part of the Goulds team.

In Melbourne she was involved in various projects around sustainable, local, healthy food, and continues to advocate for food that is healthy for the person and for the planet. She loves using food as medicine where possible, and implementing gradual and sustainable change that will lead to long-term health, vitality and wellbeing.

She is a dedicated student of yoga, having trained in asana, breathing practices and meditation. She finds the practice of yoga can be incredibly therapeutic, and often uses yogic methods for relaxation and stress reduction with her patients.

Monica’s special interest is in women’s menstrual and hormonal health. While using evidence-based treatments, she also encourages and teaches women to better understand and reconnect with their cycles and with their bodies, through all life stages.

She also has a particular passion for bringing a safe and comfortable health care experience to those groups often under-represented or under-supported in healthcare, including LGBTIQ+ and gender diverse people.

In her spare time Monica loves to cook, and spends many an hour creating recipes, fermenting, preserving and baking bread. She is always happy to share inspiration and recipes with patients. She also loves cycling, farmers markets and bushwalking.
