What to expect
All consultations with HGMC practitioners are conducted via Telehealth video-call.
Initial consultation
In your first consultation, your practitioner will take the time to understand your health concerns and goals, and review your full health history.
From there, they may suggest some further tests to get a clearer picture of what’s going on, and will suggest initial treatment steps tailored to you.
First Follow Up Consultation
Once your practitioner has a clear picture of your health, they'll talk you through next steps, which may include a personalised treatment plan, and make sure all your questions are answered.
Follow-up care
Follow-up consultations are typically scheduled every 4–10 weeks, or whenever you'd like to check in.
These appointments give you and your practitioner a chance to review your progress, adjust your treatment plan, and address any questions
Email support between consultations
We offer email support between visits for quick questions, ideally ones that can be answered with a simple yes or no, based on what's already been discussed in your consultation.
For anything more complex or urgent, give our reception team a call and we'll point you in the right direction.

Dr Hawrelak has handpicked, and personally mentors, every member of his clinical team, ensuring you receive the same standard of care and treatment approach - whoever you see.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have previous test results - will I still need to do testing?
It depends on your individual situation. Existing test results can be a valuable starting point and may help your practitioner build a clearer picture of your health, but whether they're sufficient on their own depends on a number of factors - including how recently they were done, the type of testing involved, and the standards and methods used by the testing provider.
Because testing practices, accreditation, and available panels vary between countries and providers, our practitioners assess each patient's results individually rather than applying a blanket rule. In some cases, your existing results will be enough to work from; in others, your practitioner may recommend additional or updated testing to ensure they have accurate, reliable information before providing a detailed assessment and treatment plan. This individualised approach is one of the reasons treatment plans are typically provided at your second consultation, rather than the first.
When will I receive my treatment plan?
Every patient's health picture is different, so the time it takes to receive a treatment plan will vary depending on your individual circumstances. Your practitioner needs a complete and accurate understanding of your health before they can safely recommend a course of action, and how long that takes depends on what's involved in building that picture for you specifically.
Testing is one part of this. If you've had testing done previously, this can be a helpful starting point, but it isn't always sufficient on its own - testing practices, accreditation, and available panels vary between providers and countries, so your practitioner may need updated or additional testing to ensure they're working from accurate, reliable information. Some tests are also processed quickly, while others, such as microbiome testing, can take considerably longer due to preparation requirements and provider processing times, which can also vary by location.
Because of this individualised approach, treatment plans are usually provided at your second consultation (week 4-8), once your practitioner has everything they need to move forward confidently. If your particular situation calls for more or less time, they'll let you know directly.
What level of input does Dr. Hawrelak have? Can I request that my practitioner consult with Dr. Hawrelak about my case on a regular basis?
Associates have completed extensive training with Dr. Hawrelak and continue to receive guidance and training from Dr. Hawrelak and his Lead Associates, through regular mentoring sessions.
Senior Associates and Lead Associates have completed their mentorship period and all associated competencies, and have treated many patients under Dr. Hawrelak's guidance; they continue to receive Dr. Hawrelak’s mentoring as needed.
All practitioners working with Dr. Hawrelak have access to his guidance if and when needed. Practitioners are familiar and well-versed in Dr. Hawrelak’s processes, treatment protocols, and paradigm of care, and practice independently. They will check in with Dr. Hawrelak about individual cases only when necessary.

How much will the whole treatment cost?
It is very difficult to state exactly how much the treatment process with our practitioners will cost. Our practitioners are always willing to work with you in regards to any financial needs or limitations.
First and foremost, please talk to our reception team or your practitioner if you are interested in booking a consultation (or are already seeing a practitioner within the HGMC) but are unable to afford the consultation fees, testing or supplements/natural medicines. We will help and find alternatives and solutions wherever we can.
That being said, we have provided an approximation of costs for appointments, testing and supplements below. Your individual costs for testing and supplements will depend upon your individual needs and your practitioner’s recommendations. Some cases may require extensive diagnostic testing, regular follow up appointments and substantial supplement costs that may fall outside of the price cost guidelines provided below; whereas others may require little in the way of diagnostic testing.
Appointments (6-8)
- Associates $1000 - $1700
- Senior Associates $1300 – $2500
- Lead Associates $1750 - $3500
Testing
- $200.00 - $1000.00
Supplements
- $350.00 - $2000.00
* All prices listed are in Australian dollars.
** Prices are subject to an annual increase.
*** We offer a 20% discount for Australian patients holding a Centrelink-issues low income Health Care Card – please enquire with our reception team.
**** All testing is done through third parties; our practitioners and clinic do not benefit financially from any recommendations or referrals made. We pride ourselves on providing ethical, independent, recommendations.
Why am I being charged an international appointment rate?
When patients are overseas, there are a number of additional requirements involved in providing safe and effective care.
For example, we manage time zone coordination for appointments, which often requires additional scheduling support and flexibility. We also rely more heavily on email communication, as phone contact can be difficult across time zones, and we don't have the option of using SMS in the same way we do with Australian patients. This usually means more detailed and frequent correspondence to ensure nothing is missed.
On the clinical side, our practitioners often need to adapt recommendations depending on what testing and products are available in your country. This can involve extra research, coordination with international providers, and troubleshooting alternatives when something isn’t accessible locally or by post. There can also be added complexity with shipping, customs requirements, and international delays, which can impact both product delivery and testing timelines.
Because of this, there’s often a higher level of follow-up required, including rescheduling or adjusting treatment plans. The international rate reflects this additional time, coordination, and clinical management required to provide consistent care while you are overseas.
How do I know which practitioner will best suit my condition?
All of our practitioners are experienced and skilled in their own right, and Dr. Hawrelak is confident that you will receive excellent care no matter which practitioner you consult with.
We have three Associate practitioners: Bronwyn Quinn, Michelle Campbell and Natalie McGrath. These practitioners have received intensive training with Dr. Jason Hawrelak at The Microbiome Restoration Center (Dr. Hawrelak’s educational business, dedicated to providing specialised training in gastrointestinal health and microbiome analysis to health professionals throughout the world), and are now Certified Microbiome Analysts and Certified Healthy Gut Practitioners.
Dr. Hawrelak personally selected these practitioners to work directly alongside him in his practice due to their exceptional work within his program, their deep knowledge of the gut and the gut microbiome, and their dedication to their patients. They join him in fortnightly mentoring sessions ensuring they are fully equipped and informed to deliver the level of care he expects for his patients.
The gut and microbiome team focus on providing singular care in common (and less common) gastrointestinal conditions, like IBS, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, reflux, peptic ulcers (H. pylori), leaky gut, lactose and fructose malabsorption, chronic constipation, and more. They are also up-to-date on the most recent advances in microbiome science and know which tests to take to accurately assess microbiome health - both here in Australia, and around the world. They have all done advanced training in interpreting a wide-range of different microbiome tests, and can provide expert guidance on how best to optimise your inner ecosystem to regain health, or to inspire optimal health.
We have two Senior Associates, Talia West and Lesley Baker. Talia has been working alongside Dr. Jason Hawrelak since August 2019, receiving extensive training and mentoring. Talia has also received intensive training with Dr. Jason Hawrelak at The Microbiome Restoration Center, and is now both a Certified Microbiome Analyst and Certified Healthy Gut Practitioner. Talia is not currently taking new patients as her schedule is at maximum capacity.
Lesley Baker joined Dr. Hawrelak’s team as an Associate in April 2024 and became a Senior Associate in April 2026 after supporting many patients in their gut-optimisation journey.
Lesley has received intensive training with Dr. Jason Hawrelak at The Microbiome Restoration Center (Dr. Hawrelak’s educational business dedicated to providing specialised training in gastrointestinal health and microbiome analysis to health professionals throughout the world), and is now both a Certified Microbiome Analyst and Certified Healthy Gut Practitioner.
If I book in with an Associate can I transfer into Dr. Hawrelak’s care later?
Dr. Hawrelak’s schedule is consistently very full with his current patients, and it is important that these patients are able to book appointments with him in order to receive regular, ongoing care. We also aim to keep patients with the same practitioner as much as possible. Therefore, we are usually unable to transfer HGMC patients into Dr. Hawrelak’s care.
What are my practitioners’ own lifestyle/spiritual/dietary preferences?
Please refer to our team to read our practitioner bios.
How much email support do your practitioners provide?
Our practitioners set aside specific days to respond to emails, so replies may take a little time depending on when your message arrives.
For urgent or emergency situations, please don't rely on email - it isn't a safe or appropriate way to get timely support. For urgent support we recommend calling our reception team, or if our reception team are unavailable, calling your GP or emergency medical centre.
For quick questions - like a simple yes/no query or a specific question about a supplement your practitioner has recommended - email is a great way to get a fast answer.
For more in-depth health questions, these are best discussed in a consultation, where your practitioner has the time to properly understand your situation and give you thorough advice. If you're not able to wait for your next scheduled appointment, your practitioner may be able to offer an email "consultation" instead. Please note this is treated as billable time, so you'll be invoiced accordingly.
How do I know if the HGMC is the right fit for me?
Dr. Jason Hawrelak and his team of practitioners believe in the importance of ‘food as medicine’ and an individualised approach to care. They use a range of skills and healing modalities including dietary guidance, herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, and lifestyle counselling to help patients achieve their health goals. In addition to this, they take pride in creating a nurturing, caring and personable experience for their patients wherever possible.
If you’ve seen numerous health professionals and are still not getting anywhere or you need help to determine the underlying causes of your gut disease or dysbiosis, and assistance to get back to a place of better health, we would highly recommend booking with one of our practitioners.
Unfortunately it is not possible for us to assure you that you will see the results or changes that you want to see. Each human body is unique and will respond differently to different treatments, and health is a complex area that often requires trial and error over time in order to see desired results.
Our practitioners will always work with you on an individual basis, responding to your unique needs, while utilising their skills, knowledge and expertise. They will do their best to provide outstanding care and to help you get to optimal health, however we cannot guarantee specific results.
What is the wait time and can I be seen any earlier?
